At the Top Again! The annual Top 50 Service Centers list compiled by Metal Center News (MCN) Magazine is out. And – cue drumroll – Reliance is once again at the top! That makes it 14th consecutive years. Great job, everyone. This is a record we should all be proud of.

MCN's caption to the cover picture to the right (of our friends at Bralco Metals) reads: Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. is

not just the largest service center company in sales, but also employs more people than any other company in the industry. We believe, furthermore, that Reliance folks are the best in the industry. That's because you bring yourselves to the job: you care about each other and about our customers. You being you makes our company stand out. We're much prouder of that than any awards or accolades. We're on the home stretch of 2021, can you believe it? Let's keep up the great work and finish the year strong, while continuing to stay safe and healthy for ourselves, our colleagues, and our communities.

It's still good to be us. Let's continue to be safe, be well, and be Reliance.

wellness@reliance

A NEW Wellness Program Year Begins January 2022! We believe that when you’re at your best, you can be your best for others, too, and make fun and positive contributions to our company and our communities. One way to invest in becoming your best self is through healthy living. And we believe that wellness@reliance can help you get there. The wellness@reliance program is open to all U.S. employees of Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. and its subsidiaries, and their spouse/domestic partner who is enrolled in a Reliance Rewards medical plan. Participation is completely voluntary. Reliance is partnering with WebMD (formerly StayWell), an independent wellbeing company, who will provide administration and program support for wellness@reliance. Wellness Bonus Reliance will pay a $150 quarterly Wellness Bonus to employees and their spouse/domestic partner enrolled in a Reliance Rewards medical plan who participate in and achieve certain wellness@reliance targets. Bonuses will be processed via company payroll shortly after the end of each quarter. Only those who are enrolled in a Reliance Rewards medical plan on the last day of each calendar quarter and are employed by Reliance when bonuses are paid are eligible to receive the Wellness Bonus. When an incentive-eligible Reliance employee and their incentive-eligible spouse/domestic partner both participate, the employee can receive up to $1,200 in Wellness Bonuses annually. If you and your spouse/domestic partner participate in wellness@reliance, the Wellness Bonus can be considered a way of reducing the effective cost of your medical coverage. Don’t leave money on the table by not participating in this program and taking advantage of this valuable benefit!

Sign Up for Your New Wellness Account Reliance’s partnership with WebMD will give you access to tools to help you reach your personal health and wellbeing goals. This includes an all-new website and mobile app! Sign up for your new account on or after January 4, 2022 by going to wellnessatreliance.com or downloading the WebMD Wellness At Your Side™ (WAYS) app to your tablet or mobile device.

How the Plan Works The plan promotes year-round engagement on a calendar year basis continuing with the "Gateway + 10 + 10 + 10" design. Complete your Gateway Activities (Wellness Questionnaire and Biometric Screening) by the end of the first calendar quarter to earn your first Wellness Bonus. Then earn 10 Wellness Activity Points in each of the second, third, and fourth quarters (10 + 10 + 10) to earn subsequent Wellness Bonuses. If you miss one quarter’s target, you can easily jump back into the program and earn the next Wellness Bonus during the next quarter. Just remember to always complete your Gateway Activities first.

safety@reliance

We Are All Accountable

go above and beyond? Can you feel good about how you handle your responsibilities or could you be doing more? Are you prepared to stand- up, feel proud, and account for your performance? True safety leaders volunteer to be the "go-to" person of those things for which they are responsible. They adopt an “I’ve got this” attitude. They tend to have little fear of punishment because they act with integrity, and in so doing their conscience is clear.

accountability is what you voluntarily do with that obligation. Responsibility can be shared. Accountability cannot. The phrase "safety is a shared responsibility" is true, but incomplete. We are collectively responsible for safety. But, we are individually asked to account for our actions. So, a truer statement is: Safety is a shared responsibility with each individual being accountable for their actions.

Accountability is defined as "the state of being accountable, liable, or answerable." Many will get hung up on "liable" and make it all about legal implications. But take all three parts of the definition together and you will see accountability as a measure of one’s integrity. Once you have accepted the responsibilities of your position, accountability measures your performance in fulfilling those responsibilities. Will you barely meet the minimum standard or will you surpass it? Will you do just enough to not get fired or will you choose to

A Helpful MS Teams Trick

Do you miss Skype? Unfortunately, it’s not coming back but its replacement, Microsoft Teams, has similar features. For example, did you know you can pop out your conversations into separate windows? That can help you focus on an individual conversation especially when moving between business applications. And if you’re sharing your screen, you can keep other conversations private when chatting while presenting. There are two simple ways to pop out a conversation from your desktop Teams Chat window:

Keeping a company’s information and systems safe requires many different disciplines to approach the problem from all sides. Security and compliance are two of these. They’re separate but closely intertwined in support of the same goal: reducing risk to the company’s information and systems. Compliance Compliance requirements come from outside sources: government, industry groups, partners, and customers. They’re a set of commitments the company is obliged to follow due to law or contractual agreements. Security Information security is the practice of “due care” with the use of technology. That is, doing what’s appropriate to limit risk in the specific circumstances, for its own sake. Finding Balance Neither compliance or security alone is sufficient to ensure a business’ stability and long-term success. Focusing too much on compliance at the expense of security can leave technical gaps. For example, if a company follows every rule perfectly by the book, but also has sloppy practices, it’s headed for disaster. Similarly, a singular focus on securing information doesn’t always satisfy compliance requirements. When combined appropriately, businesses can be sure they’re operating legally and as agreed to their stakeholders, while at the same time limiting the risk to the information they’re entrusted with.

Goings on

Welcome to the Family! Headquartered in Ipswich, Massachusetts, Merfish United serves 47 U.S. states through its 12 strategically located distribution centers and proprietary fleet of about 65 trucks. Merfish United’s product offering includes full lines of steel pipe, copper tubing, plastic pipe, electrical conduit and related

products. The company supports commercial, residential, municipal and industrial building markets in areas such as plumbing and heating; pipe, valve and fittings (PVF); heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); waterworks; fire protection; pool supply; lumber yard; fence; electrical supply, and more. With Merfish as a part of the Reliance Family, our exposure to copper and plastic products increases, as does our position in the industrial distribution space. We're excited to have a platform for further growth in this area and look forward to a brighter future together!

Remembering and Serving on 9/11 Day For the third year, Reliance partnered with the 9/11 Day organization to send a family of volunteers to Meal Pack events in five U.S. cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and St. Louis. It's one way we can come together as individuals, as companies, and as a Family in solidarity. In the midst of the somber remembrance offered to all those lost in 2001, we were able to show strength and solidarity in service to our communities. Across 10 Meal Pack events, over two million meals were packed by more than 6,500 volunteers! This being the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, the opportunity to show up and "do some Good," as Hale Nelson of EMJ – who volunteered in Atlanta – put it simply, was especially meaningful.

Reliance's largest group accounted for about 10% of the total volunteers in Los Angeles, where President Karla Lewis opened the event with a bang.

Participating FOCs included AMI Metals, SSA, Bralco Metals, MetalCenter, CCC Steel, Reliance Steel Company, EMJ, and Reliance Corporate. Across the other cities, we had representation from Phoenix Metals, Tubular Steel, NI Steel, Feralloy, Sugar Steel, and Smith Pipe. Thanks to everyone for making the time on a Saturday to work and serve for a powerful cause. As our CEO Jim Hoffman – who volunteered in Phoenix along with his wife, Andrea – said, "Anyone can write a check... Giving up your personal time is yet another thing altogether!"

InOur Communities Texas FOCs Deliver Ida Relief Reliance companies across Texas – EMJ, Fox Metals, Precision Flamecutting & Steel, and Team REX – made an extraordinary and coordinated effort to collect and deliver critical supplies to our Louisiana locations impacted by Hurricane Ida. All groups mobilized quickly – in about three days, they sent two truckloads of supplies!

"It really was quite a haul!" said Adam Morse, GM at EMJ Houston/Lafayette. "I was so happy to see our company pitching in to help those in need!"

Brett Rutledge, VP & COO, shared with his Fox Metals Family, "I couldn’t be more proud about the outpouring of kindness and generosity you displayed in this relief drive following Hurricane Ida. We are going to send a LOT of much needed supplies and materials to people that very much need them right now. I hope this puts a huge smile on your face. You totally stepped up and delivered!"

Reliance Cares also issued over 80 Immediate Response Program grants. This is what Family is all about. We're here for each other.

Beating the Texas Heat While the weather is finally starting to show signs of fall, it's hard to forget what an especially hot summer it was. Our colleagues at Reliance Metalcenter in Arlington, Texas (DIV06) decided to show the team their appreciation by organizing a snow cone mobile to come onsite.

When Office Manager Martha Hernandez shared the news, a few folks had big smiles on their faces. "Really? You're going to do that for us?"

"Yes," she replied. "Y'all deserve it working in this Texas heat!

What a simple and FUN way to stay cool and take a break, and bring out a smile in everyone. Snow cones FTW!
