Happy New Year to the Reliance Family! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and a great Christmas with your families. Here we go – it’s 2019, our 80th anniversary as a company, and it could be another good one! But before we talk about 2019 and beyond, I would like to applaud each and every one of you for a record setting 2018. This couldn’t have been possible without your outstanding work. Well done and thank you. I’d also like to once again acknowledge and thank Gregg Mollins. As you all know Gregg has been a
great leader and mentor to many of us. Thanks Gregg and God Bless. The beginning of the year is a good time to reflect on the core values that serve as our foundation and will continue to guide us into the future: Integrity, honesty, the safety of our teammates, dedication to family and country, listening to our customers, working with our domestic suppliers, providing value added services, performance and the value of our earnings. While remaining steadfast to these Reliance basics, I’d also like to add a couple of things that will take Reliance into the future and beyond which are continuous improvement, innovation and advanced business development. Our culture of collaboration has earned us our position as the leader in the metals service center industry. As the world continues to change through innovation, we must continue to evolve and improve to stay out in front! Our collaborative spirit will be more important than ever as we continue to innovate to strengthen our leadership position and continue to grow our Family of Companies. Keep an open mind – change can be good! On a final note, the safety of our people has been and continues to be near and dear to my heart. Our safety theme for 2019 is “One Family, One Culture of Smart Safety.” Please take a

Use it or Lose it!
The Deadline for Using Your 2018 PayFlex Flexible Spending Account (“FSA”) is March 15, 2019. Use Your Money or Lose it!
If you enrolled in the 2018 Healthcare and/or Dependent Day Care FSA and have not yet spent down your balance, you may incur eligible expenses until March 15, 2019. You then have until March 30, 2019 to submit receipts for reimbursement of those eligible expenses, provided they were incurred between January 1, 2018 and March 15, 2019. If you miss either of these deadlines, that money - YOUR money– will sadly disappear in a puff of smoke. Please start thinking of ways to use those
funds and make sure to both spend the money by March 15, 2019 AND submit the claims by March 30, 2019. If you have FSA funds still available, and are looking for ideas on how to use those funds for eligible expenses, you may want to perform an internet search. You should easily find a number of sites that provide examples of FSA eligible expenses.
PayFlex to Anthem effective January 1, 2019. If you had a 2018 FSA account with PayFlex, your debit card was deactivated on December 31, 2018. If you still have 2018 FSA funds available to spend, you can request reimbursement using a paper claim form (available on Reliance Roots) or by uploading your claim on PayFlex’s website at payflex.com.
If you have any questions, please call PayFlex at 1-888-678-8242.

SMART Families Fight Complacency Do you ever feel yourself getting complacent at home or at work?
O N E F A M I L Y , O N E C U L T U R E
You might ask what is complacency? It is when you’ve been doing something one way for a long period of time without any issues that you assume there will never be an incident. It’s the classic “I’ve been doing it this way for 10 years, and nothing has ever happened to me” syndrome. What are the factors that cause us to get complacent in life or the workplace? • Fatigue • Time • Rushing • Stress • Distraction • Lack of knowledge/awareness/ communication We can fight complacency by holding each other accountable and by having constant awareness at home and at work. If a family member doesn’t have their seat belt on while driving because “I have never worn it or been in an accident” ask them to put it on.

The next time you’re using a weed trimmer at home be SMART and wear your safety glasses even if you’ve rarely ever had debris fly into your eyes. Too often we don’t realize how complacent we are until we have a close call. These events jump start our hearts and focus our attention. At Reliance, we work extremely hard to eliminate any complacent mindsets with our employees. Let’s make the fight on complacency a SMART family effort!

Cyber Security New Year’s Resolutions
The beginning of a New Year is the perfect time to check up on your personal and professional cyber security. Take this opportunity to make a couple of resolutions that will keep your technology serving you well throughout 2019. “I’ll install anti-virus software” There’s lots of malware lurking on the internet that target every computer, phone, and tablet. Installing anti-virus software can help detect and block them in case you run into one (or two!). Effective anti-virus software doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, the free versions (from reputable publishers) can be equally effective. Windows and Mac users can check out AVG free , Avira is an option for iPhone/iPad users and for Android there’s Bitdefender . “I’ll make a backup” Disk drives in our computers can fail unexpectedly and mobile devices can get lost or stolen. When they contain your important data, the only protection is to be prepared in advance. Make a copy of anything you wouldn’t want to lose, and store it in a different location than your primary copy. Cloud storage like Google Drive or DropBox are options to explore.
“I’ll turn on disk encryption” Setting a password on your computer and phone prevents people from using them without your permission. But it doesn’t fully protect the data they contain. An important additional step is to enable “full disk encryption.” This ensures that even if the device is lost or stolen, nothing can be read from it. “I’ll try an ad blocker” Even modest advertisements on websites can be annoying. They cause the pages to load slower, use more of your network bandwidth and battery power, and can lead to downloading unwanted/malicious
software. To counter them, there are free extensions available for your web browser. These extensions quietly prevent the ads from downloading and displaying in the first place so you see only the content you were looking for. If you don’t already have an ad blocker, you can checkout Adblock Plus . Just like getting in shape or taking up a new hobby, these New Year’s resolutions will take some effort. But the rewards are unmistakable. You’ll be prepared in case your device breaks, gets lost, or is targeted by malware, and browsing the internet will be faster, safer, and less cluttered. Then you can finally focus on going to the gym, quitting smoking, paying off that credit card, or spending more time with your family.

Durrett Sheppard: Thanksgiving Food Drive
During the month of October, the Accounting Department at Durrett Sheppard Steel hosted a Thanksgiving Food Drive at their office, benefiting the Salvation Army. Many employees donated, some on a weekly basis. They placed boxes and donation cans throughout the office and lunch rooms, which provided several Thanksgiving meal kits and many gift certificates. The idea came about by employee JoAnne Geiger, who is passionate about the Salvation Army’s various community programs. “I have worked with the Salvation Army for over 20 years with programs like the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Stuff-A-Stocking, Dress-A-Bear and Angel Tree. When my children were young, I used the Salvation Army programs as a way to teach them to be thankful and to give,” said JoAnne.

Phoenix Metals: “Slumber Up”
Phoenix Metals is very proud of the effort that their Nashville location employees made to help the ShowerUp charity with their recent sleeping bag drive. When Phoenix Metals employee Jessica White learned of the Sleeping Bag Drive that ShowerUp was conducting, she decided to see how many sleeping bags their office could collect. They surpassed their goal of collecting 20 sleeping bags and collected a total of 30!
